Stand Alone
Stand Alone is a UK charity which raises awareness of estrangement and supports adults estranged from family members.
Stand Alone charity's vision and mission is to build a society where individuals who are estranged from family members feel accepted and understood, and have the freedom to live without experiencing judgement, stigma or disadvantage.
We want to increase knowledge and awareness of family estrangement, and influence change for individuals and society by:
Creating and promoting research about family estrangement Building greater awareness about family estrangement Influencing and collaborating with policy makers and professionals Delivering support to individuals who are affected by family estrangement or disownment.
One element of our work focuses on estrangement in higher education. We are working towards better recognition of estranged students in higher education policy and the challenges they face in accessing and achieving in higher education. To drive support for estranged students on an institutional level higher education providers can sign up to the Stand Alone Pledge, a public commitment to develop their support provision for estranged students from pre-entry to graduation.
