There are some complexities to navigate and understand while you make your decisions. It is important that you fully research what is available to you, and we recommend speaking directly with the universities that you wish to apply to before you apply to ensure you understand their system and to access any support.  Your PA or Social Worker should be able to support you through your educational journey, or you can use the links below to seek advice and guidance.

  • Refugee Ecuation UK: Leading charity working collectively to improve access to education and remove the barriers faced by sanctuary‑seeking students. Our friends at Refugee Education UK have provided some videos to help guide you towards your next step in education.

  • UCAS: This UCAS guide for sanctuary-seeking students was created in collaboration with Refugee Education UK, STAR Network, and We Belong.
  • Hope for the Young: This small charity focuses on removing barriers to education and well-being for young refugees and asylum-seekers, through mentoring, advocacy, and financial support.
  • The Bell Foundation: This foundation aims to strengthen policy, practice, and systems so that children, adults, and communities across the UK who speak English as an Additional Language (EAL) can overcome disadvantage through improved access to language education.
  • Student Action for Refugees (STAR): STAR is a national network of students and, through campus groups and a central expert team, this network campaigns for fair policies and equal access to higher education.

  • City of Sanctuary:  By coordinating and supporting networks across communities, schools, universities, councils and organisations, this organisation helps to create inclusive spaces through collaboration, training, lived‑experience leadership and practical resources.
  • Displaced Students: This website, hosted by Refugee Education UK and STAR, with support from City of Sanctuary, provides comprehensive resources on financial and academic support available to displaced students.
  • Education Grants: Schwab & Westheimer Trust provides financial assistance for education and promotes positive achievement through awards.
