First Star Scholars Programme Director, University of Winchester

An exciting opportunity has arisen at the University of Winchester for a Programme Director to set up and manage an exciting and innovative new programme supporting the educational progression of children living in care.

The University of Winchester has a long tradition of providing opportunities to those from backgrounds who might not normally have accessed Higher Education, including Care Leavers and Care Experienced students.  We are now introducing a ground-breaking 4-year programme to create more opportunities for children living in care to enter higher education, called the First Star Scholars Programme. Inspired by the success of First Star in the USA, this programme will work with foster children from the age of 14 to help them develop academically, socially and emotionally and work towards entering higher education.

The new Programme Director will liaise with schools and local authority partners to recruit and support a cohort of care experienced young people. They will work closely with First Star Scholars UK to establish and oversee an academic and development curriculum delivered through monthly weekend sessions and a four-week summer residential. The Programme Director will report directly to the Director of Widening Participation and work closely with external colleagues including the First Star Scholars UK Executive Director and funders.
