First Star Scholars Winchester Academy – for young people in care who aspire to University
This summer the University of Winchester will be launching the First Star Scholar Scheme for thirty current Year 9 students (entering Year 10 in September 2021). The four-year scheme will include monthly Saturday Schools and an annual Summer School residential.
In collaboration with First Star Scholars UK we offer academic support, life skills and personal development in an immersive higher education experience. The programme is designed to support young people academically, personally and socially throughout GCSE’s and A-Levels (or equivalent) in order that they can get the grades needed to enter higher education and go on to obtain a good degree.
We will be hosting Open Days on Saturday 26th June and Saturday 24th July (11am-1pm). The Open Days will include a pizza lunch, information session, campus tour and taster workshop in graffiti or criminology (TBC). Please advertise this opportunity with your students using the attached flyer.
The dates of the first residential are confirmed as Monday 2nd August to Friday 20th August (Mondays-Fridays), applications will open on the 26th June with forms soon to be made available.
