In this webinar, we will explore how a whole institution approach and the language that we use can impact on a young person from a care backgrounds outcomes in education.
We are delighted to be joined by Corin Barton from the University of Law and Wendy Price from the University of Sunderland who will share how their internal training and programmes enable staff to better support their learners.
Guest Speakers
- Corin Barton, The University of Law: Corin Barton will outline the training offered to ULAW academic and business staff to enable them to better support students with care experience. It will focus on areas including the use of language, academic support and classroom delivery. Corin has lectured at ULAW for over twenty years and has personal experience as a foster carer, special guardian and adoptive parent.
- Wendy Price OBE is the Head of Widening Access and Participation at the University of Sunderland. Wendy will share how the 'We Care' programme provides a full lifecycle approach for supporting students at Sunderland. This includes training and a resource toolkit for academic and support staff, and an ‘opt in’ sharing agreement for students.
