My name is Gabby and I’m studying Psychology and Counselling at Sunderland University. I’ve always wanted to go to university but I was always afraid of not getting into college or sixth form first. I wasn’t the best behaved child during my secondary school years, I’d just lost my mam then went into foster care. During Year 10, me and my Foster Carer and my Dad had a big heart to heart conversation and after expressing my want to move ahead and do something with my life instead of being in the same disruptive cycle as my family, they encouraged me to stick in with my GCSEs and then my A Levels.
Even though I didn’t get the grades I wanted, I was still able to apply to a foundation year at university to be able to get the skills to go into my chosen course. If I can do it, so can you!
