When I went into care at 13 I wasn't thinking about going to university, it was only when I left care at 16 that I put any thought into it.

I didn't have a support network around me to direct me where I could go. It wasn't until the age of 23 and talking to staff at Sunderland College about what I was doing currently, I said "a teaching assistant, would have liked to have seen what uni is like but that's not for people like me".  I thought because I had been in care meant I had less value or potential as a student than those who hadn't had that experience.  I was wrong.

It was that conversation that led me to an access course and then to my undergraduate course today. Your worth is decided by you not your experiences. There are people that can help.
