Vickie Sala Arslan, from the University of Huddersfield, will share their academic mentoring programme and initiatives including conversation buddies and sofa sessions, exploring how they help build confidence, connection and belonging.
Vickie is a Fellow of ALDinHE and Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Her work focuses on helping students navigate academic, social and cultural barriers, with a particular interest in creating opportunities for students to build confidence, connect with their peers and recognise the value of their own life experiences.
In recent years, Vickie’s work has increasingly connected with the HE journeys of care-experienced and estranged students – a journey of learning she encourages others working across HE to embark upon too.
